Florida State Beekeepers Association

The Florida State Beekeepers Association will have its annual workshop and business meeting November 1-3 in Winter Haven, Florida. The state meeting usually has some very good speakers that talk on a level that a country fellow can understand. There will be an awards banquet as well as a beginners class. This will be the first time I have had a chance to attend a beginner’s class on state level.
There will be information on the Africanized Honey Bee and Colony Collapse Disorder. There will be a report on the funds that the state and US government are giving to the bee labs and entomology depts. to research the CCD.
It will be very informative and I am sure you will be entertained to the point of maybe wanting to come back next year. Like all meetings, you will be able to rub shoulders with all kinds of different beekeepers. In addition to all this, I will be going to meet some new friends. I hope to see you there.

Im a hobbiest beekeep can anyone come to the Meeting? Do I have to register? or be a member?

The meeting is open to anyone who is interested in bees, pollination, or just curious. You do need to register. It is usually cheaper to preregister, but you can register at the door when you get there.
For an application, contact Dr. Malcolm Sanford at beeactor@earthlink.net.

I have a swarm of honey bees in a tree in my back yard-they have formed an aerial nest. Would anyone be interested in purchasing these bees?

Jessica,
Normally, when you have a swarm in a tree, bush, or on the side of your home, if you are not a beekeeper, then you contact a local beekeeper or go through your local emergency agency. Depending on how much time it would take the beekeeper to collect the swarm as to whether you pay him or get the job done for free. If you collect the swarm and put it in a bee box, then you could sell the colony. I hope this helps you.

Great post I had a hard time locally finding information on beekeeping. The local book stores had NOTHING on the matter..
I found a book that was actually quite good for free from snipfiles (they give away books that most people sell). I want to share it for all you other beekeepers in training.

Again it’s free - nothing required to download it

Hi Peaches! Why didn’t you tell me you had a website? I think that is too cool!
Hey, you might want to change your information about FSBA convention being held this year at Florida Farm Bureau, Gainesville Oct 30-Nov 1. On that Thursday, independent of the FSBA meetings, Jamie will be holding, at the same location, the Master Beekeeper Apprentice Course from 7:30am 9pm (just the same way it worked at Bee College…November 1, of course will be another practical beekeeping event. Since this is the fourth one I have done, each different, I am running short of ideas, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Maybe you would like to do a session?
P.S still looking for your jars…
Your bee buddy,
Nancy
