Workshop Report

The Workshop was a success. There were over 100 beekeepers there. A few wives and some young ones. We had seven stations and each one was a class in itself. The classes were approx 20 minutes long with a 5 minute break between each. We received information about Grafting queen cells and growing them into mature adults; Diseases of the hive, Integrated Pest Management (IPM) procedures; three ways to check Varroa Mite infestation; Splitting a hive and introducing a new queen, Extracting honey using an automated decapper and radial extractor.

We had 4 classes then broke for lunch which was served at the local volunteer firestation and then we had a PowerPoint presentation of Honeybee Plants of Florida.

We went back to the honey-house and finished the other 3 classes then had the sale. I sold everything I took except for the 2 extractors belonging to our 4H club. Oh well! There is always another workshop or seminar somewhere.

Hello, I am happy to see that your workshop had a good turn out with the young in attendance. I do believe we need more of the younger kids involved in the art of bee keeping in all aspects of the science and importance of the honey bee. If not only the important survival of the honey bee but it’s all more larger role in the survival of man kind.I was wonder if the 4-h club is still looking to sell there spare extractors,if so you can reach me at villageclockmaker@yahoo.com.

      Thank you

Thank you for reading and commenting on my site. It is true that the young people need to be trained as beekeepers because some of us older keepers are having to retire for various reasons. The 4H still has 2 extractors for sale. I’ll check to see the prices.
